Hardwood Flooring & Installation - Revival Flooring

Engineered Wide PlankHardwood Flooring

Our wide plank flooring is mainly sourced from Canada. At times, we will use lumber from the U.S. if we cannot source locally. Our hardwood flooring is installed in restaurants, shopping areas, office space, cottages, and homes. These floors range greatly in appearance and are available in many species. Depending on variables such as species, stain, width sizes, scraping, and milling style, the possibilities are endless! All our wide plank flooring is unfinished and needs to be sanded and finished once it is installed.

Species include, but are not limited to, red oak, white oak, quarter and rift sawn oak, walnut, white ash, red pine, cherry, hemlock, red maple, grey elm, and red elm. All the material is kiln dried to ensure stability. It’s available in solid construction or engineered, enabling our product to be installed in a wide range of applications and locations. A key benefit of our plank flooring is the element of texture.

Wide Plank Hardwood Flooring

At Revival Flooring, our engineered wide plank hardwood flooring brings the natural warmth and timeless elegance of real wood into modern spaces. Crafted for both beauty and performance, these floors deliver the luxurious look of wide planks with the stability and versatility of engineered construction. Whether you’re designing a Muskoka cottage, an urban condo, or a high-traffic commercial space, our custom wide plank floors are built to elevate every environment.

What Is Engineered Wide Plank Flooring?

Engineered wide plank flooring is a clever construction that gives you beautiful, broad floorboards. Think planks that are noticeably wider than the traditional narrow strips, often five inches or more across. The “engineered” part refers to how it’s made: a top layer of real hardwood (like oak or maple) bonded to multiple layers of plywood.

This structure is key. With engineered hardwood flooring in wide planks, you get that expansive, high-end look combined with smart construction that resists warping, shrinking, or expanding with humidity changes — ideal for homes and businesses in Canada’s variable climate. Compared to solid hardwood, engineered wide plank floors are more dimensionally stable and compatible with a broader range of installations, including basements, radiant heat systems, and commercial spaces.

Species & Design Options

Revival Flooring offers a curated selection of Canadian-sourced engineered wide plank hardwoods, with additional premium lumber available from the U.S. when required. Popular options include:

  • White Oak & Red Oak – Timeless grains, ideal for both rustic and contemporary interiors.
  • Walnut – Rich, deep tones with elegant visual warmth.
  • Maple & Ash – Smooth, uniform surfaces perfect for modern spaces.
  • Reclaimed Woods – Sustainably repurposed planks that add unique history and character.

Each engineered wide plank floor can be customized through a variety of finishes — from wire-brushed and hand-scraped to sawn textures or smooth sanded surfaces. Because the boards are wider, the wood’s character and grain pattern are showcased more prominently, creating a luxurious, natural feel.

Technical Benefits & Construction

Engineered flooring is designed for strength, moisture resistance, and longevity. Each board features a top layer of genuine hardwood that can be sanded and refinished over time, supported by a multi-ply or high-density core for dimensional stability.

Key advantages include:

  • Moisture Stability: Reduced risk of cupping and warping compared to solid hardwood.
  • Versatile Installation: Suitable for basements, concrete slabs, and radiant heat systems.
  • Sustainable Use of Resources: Engineered cores optimize material efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Durability: With proper maintenance, engineered wide plank floors last for decades.

These benefits make engineered flooring particularly suitable for Muskoka homes, cottages, and commercial environments where temperature and humidity fluctuate seasonally.

Advantages of Wide Plank Flooring

Choosing wide plank engineered hardwood offers aesthetic and functional benefits that go beyond traditional narrow-strip floors:

  • Elegant, Open Appearance: Fewer seams create a clean, continuous visual flow that enhances any space.
  • Natural Grain Emphasis: Wide planks showcase more of the wood’s authentic patterns and color variations.
  • Enhanced Property Value: Wide plank hardwood is seen as a premium flooring upgrade.
  • Design Flexibility: Complements rustic, contemporary, and luxury design styles alike.
  • Durability & Comfort: Engineered construction provides resilience in high-traffic and family-friendly environments.

Buyer’s Considerations

Before investing in engineered wide plank flooring, homeowners and designers should consider several factors:

  • Subfloor Compatibility: Can be installed over plywood, concrete, or radiant heating systems.
  • Acclimatization: Boards should adjust to room humidity prior to installation.
  • Installation Method: Options include glue-down, nail-down, or floating applications depending on the subfloor and space.
  • Cost Variables: Pricing varies by species, plank width, finish, and customization.
